Mocha School Hall Restoration – Maskeliya
WOWLife Australia partnered with the Apostolic Diocese of Ceylon (ADC) to fund the restoration of the Mocha School exam hall that had experienced decades of severe weather damage. For the first time in 30 years, students were able to sit their O/L examinations at their own school. Before the project, families would have needed to spend Rs 135,000 on transport for exams—an impossible cost for estate workers earning less than Rs 2,000 a day. The restored hall has removed this burden and created a safe, dignified learning space for the community. The restoration, coordinated on the ground through the Apostolic Diocese of Ceylon’s community outreach network, included essential repairs to the roof, walls, drainage, ceilings, flooring, electrics, and full repainting of the interior and exterior. The ADC’s local presence ensured transparency, careful stewardship of funds, and the successful completion of all works. This transformation has brought renewed hope, reduced financial stress, and restored pride to the Mocha Estate community.
